Recycling & Reuse
Hemlock has continually expanded its recycling programs since the
early 1970s. Today, Hemlock works with recycling and print suppliers
around Metro Vancouver as well as with the wider community to expand
material recapture possibilities and to make certain materials available
to art schools and programs.
From supplier stewardship
programs to paper towel composting, Hemlock constantly searches for ways
to further reduce our company’s environmental impact by prolonging
material life spans and reducing emissions of pollution to the
environment. Makeready paper is reused several times and then
overprinted with waste ink for use as Hemlock box liners. Process waters
are reused multiple times before on-press evaporation or in-developer
treatment. Ink leftovers are re-blended, rags and solvents are reused,
and even office carpet tiles are rearranged until evenly worn before
shipment to the supplier for recycling.
Because of the strong
understanding of the recycling industry, Hemlock offers clients advice
on making projects as recyclable and low-impact as possible as well as
accepting customer leftovers from Hemlock print jobs for recycling no
matter the substrate.
All paper, cardboard, plates and other metal, and over 90% of hard and soft plastics, wood waste, paper towel, rags, solvents, electronics wastewater, inks, light bulbs, batteries, and compostables are recycled.
